2008 ~ 2108

Our Third Century

We officially began our third Century on Sunday, February 17th, 2008.  On that day, The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden turned 200 years old.  We did celebrate the occasion that day however as the Century gears up, we have much more planned for this Summer with a series of celebrations.

Here's a list of the events and their dates:

    • A Mock Wedding!

      Saturday, June 14, 2008

A Mock Wedding is a fun social evening that was enjoyed frequently during the l950s and 60s.  Our own church did it several times and members have asked to hold one again.  It entails all members of the wedding party switching roles , the bride will be male and the groom a female, ushers are women and bridesmaids are men, etc. Margaret Lorenzen has offered to chair this event, having done it many times in the past, and Connie Walker and her committee will host the reception.  Volunteers for the wedding party are filling up quickly, so do alert Margaret or Jeanine  if you would like to participate.  We do not have a firm date,as of this writing, but we are seriously considering Saturday, June 14, 2008, the evening before our actual Bicentennial Community Picnic. Preparation for this event will require one rehearsal before the presentation. We encourage you to bring friends and family who enjoy a time of silliness, followed by light refreshments.

    • Memory Letters

There is an ongoing effort to get people to submit their memories on "Sharing Memories blue stationery," which is available in the wicker basket in the social room for everyone to record their own personal history with the church.  We are looking for information like - when you joined, if you were married here, children's baptisms, special people and activities you enjoyed participating in over the years, etc.  Let's fill this scrapbook with our footprints to be enjoyed by members in 2108, when they celebrate our Third Century.

    • Bicentennial Community Picnic

It's never too early to make a note on your calendar that June 15, 2008 will be the date of the Bicentennial Celebration.
The community and past members are encouraged to come hear guest speakers, enjoy special music, share a Chicken Barbecue prepared by Sertoma and the United Methodist Church of Dryden, approximate price $7 for adults or $3.50 for just the chicken. We will have exhibits, music, children's games, and other surprises for everyone to enjoy. We will share this date with Father's Day so plan to bring Dad and all your gang for a special family day.
